 Sustainable Livelihoods
 Sustainable Cities
 Ecolegis

Sustainable development covers a wide-range of issues. But a number of critical issues are gaining importance and recognition around the world. The members of the Sustainable Development Communications Network (SDCN) are working together to provide you with an in-depth look at the innovative solutions being implemented by communities, non-governmental organizations, governments and the private sector.

  • Introduction to Sustainable Development - contains a timeline of sustainable development history, background material on the most important aspects of the concept, and suggestions for further exploration.

  • The SD Briefcase - prepared by IISD for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. Contains the ten successes and setbacks in the ten years since the Earth Summit and the ten issues that must be addressed in the next decade.

  • The Search for Sustainable Livelihoods - shares knowledge emerging from household and community-level initiatives in India and Senegal.

  • The Need for Sustainable Cities - Sustainable Cities On-line Module gives you an overview of urban sustainability issues as well as educating decision-makers with concrete examples and best practices.

  • Ecolegis - helps you to locate relevant environmental laws from Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe.

Network members are currently developing online modules about water management, public participation and sustainable cities. They are also expanding "The Search for Sustainable Livelihoods" to include new case studies from other regions of the world.
