Green Campuses

 Volver a la Lista

This listserv is intended to facilitate information exchange between individuals at colleges and universities who are attempting to reduce the adverse impacts of their institution's activities on the environment. Programs already underway are working to increase the efficiency of energy and water use, to decrease the generation of solid waste and the use of toxic chemicals, and to increase the use of recycled materials. These programs go under a variety of names: Campus as Biosphere, Campus Environmental Stewardship, Brown is Green, Tufts is Clean, etc. These programs are beginning to have some initial successes as well as some very instructive failures. Often both experiences from both categories can be very instructive to other programs. This listserv was initiated by James Corless and Harold Ward, both closely associated with the Brown is Green program. The idea was supported by David Eagen at Wisconsin and David Orr at Oberlin. These folks, along with a number of others, have prepared a short book, to appear as part of the Jossey-Bass series on New Directions for Higher Education.
