TOES97 | |||
| TOES, The Other Economic Summit, has convened annually since 1984 as a popular expression of discontent with the limitations of economic policy advanced by the G-7. The TOES97 list focuses on the theme of the TOES '97 conference, "Working Alternatives: A World That Works", to be held June 19-22, 1997, in Denver, Colorado. It will focus on the following broad questions:
TOES promotes "an economics as if people mattered"....economics which incorporate the sustainable use of natural resources and the productive engagement of all people in the development of their communities and societies. TOES has brought together academics and activists from both industrialized and third-world nations to challenge the assumption of the official summit (G-7) that global economic policy affecting 100 percent of the world's people can effectively be made by the leaders of seven nations representing less than a quarter of the global population. For more information about TOES and the upcoming conference, please see their web site (linked above).
