| PPN is hosted by Communications for a Sustainable Future (CSF) at the University of Colorado (USA). It is dedicated to the development of alternative ways to think about population processes, beyond the standard demographic, microeconomic and neo-malthusian perspectives, and beyond the notion that population control is a panacea for the world's problems. Discussion will involve the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches, and about ways to incorporate and further develop the contributions of sociological, anthropological, Marxist, neo-Marxist, environmentalist and feminist theory and research to the study of population. Central to the discussions will be the importance of class, gender and racial/ethnic divisions and, more generally, the role of power in shaping demographic behavior, policies and processes. While rapid population growth poses important problems to communities, nation states and the globe, population stabilization cannot be achieved without addressing the social conditions that lead to excessive growth. In addition, archives will be built around issues such as reproductive freedom, teen-age pregnancy, the new reproductive technologies, internal and international migration, population control policies and methods, health stratification, mortality differentials by class, gender and race, and others. The archives are intended to serve as repositories for the members' published and unpublished work as well as for articles gleaned from other sources.
